Position: Elder Driveway Heavy Equipment Operator/Truck Driver I Open: 04-06-26
Location: White Earth Close: 04-17-26
Pay: $23.64/hr. Benefits: Full Status: Full time
The White Earth Reservation Business Committee is seeking a qualified candidate who will be responsible for operating equipment used to remove, distribute, level, or grade earth, gravel, sand and snow. Assisting with installation of water lines and septic systems, jetting/cleaning sewer lines, thawing frozen water and sewer lines. Deliver materials and equipment as well as maintain said equipment
Position Outcomes:
Ensures specific equipment is used for specific jobs, to minimize man hours and funding.
• Operates backhoes for trenching water lines and sewer lines as well as grave digging within local cemeteries
• Operates skid-steers for backfilling trenches, hauling drain-field gravel, sand and topsoil.
• Operates dozers to clear brushes and trees, restore roads and driveways, finish yards and push materials for installing Water and Sewer Systems.
• Operates other heavy equipment as assigned.
• Operates dump truck to haul equipment and material to various work sites on the reservation
• Complete pre-trip and post trip inspections and reports needed repairs
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance records after work is performed
Ensures maintenance is performed on equipment and trucks to promote longer equipment life with safer operation.
• Greases equipment grease points on buckets, booms, tracks and suspensions.
• Changes oil, oil filters, air filters and fuel filters, using correct parts and materials.
• Performs minor repairs on equipment, such as changing hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkages and tires.
• Maintains mechanical and maintenance records of equipment and trucks
Ensures safe procedures are followed to prevent accidents, injury and death.
• Ensures trenches are correctly sloped and spoil-piles are far enough from trench edge to minimize cave-ins.
• Ensures loaded buckets, booms and other related equipment are not swung overhead of other workers.
• Ensures backup alarms, flashers, parking brakes and other safety equipment is in working order and operational.
On call scheduling to assist in the event of any emergencies
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
• Knowledge of individual sewage treatment systems, including drainfields, mounds and at-grade systems.
• Knowledge of wells, submersible pumps, shallow-well pumps and the equipment and materials for well repair.
• Knowledge of sewer pumps, controls and sewer cleaning equipment
• Knowledge of Indian Health Service specifications for well and sewer system installation and their related materials.
• Skilled in controlling operation of equipment or systems.
• Skilled in management of material resources, which includes obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities and material needed to do certain work.
• Skilled in handling multiple tasks.
• Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of machine or vehicle to exact positions.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and correctly.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and safety manuals and work orders.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two (2) years of experience operating equipment.
• Valid driver’s license to travel to Various work sites and other business-related destinations.
• Prefer training in Individual Sewage Treatment Systems and Plumbing training or experience.
• Safety Training in fall protection, confined space entry and trench safety within six (6) months of hire date.
• Frequent work around Heavy Equipment and Trucks where noise level is moderate and too loud.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
