Pay: $20.42 Benefits: Full Status: Full Time
The White Earth Reservation Business Committee is currently seeking a qualified applicant who will be responsible for assisting the forestry program by working on various forestry and fuels management related projects including manual and mechanical hazard fuels reduction, plantation thinning, plantation release, spirit firewood processing and delivery, prescribed fire preparations and operations, wildland fire suppression, hazard tree removal, and wildland urban interface fuels removal.
• Conduct equipment maintenance and inspection to maintain a safe working environment:
o Operate, clean, maintain and conduct minor repair on equipment.
o Clean and maintain work areas.
o Responsible for morning maintenance checks on all equipment and vehicles
o Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
o Responsible for personal on-the-job safety and health.
• Assist with Fuels Crew Activities:
o Cutting, piling, chipping, and moving trees, brush, and debris.
o Use and maintenance of chainsaws, brush saws, axes, pruning saws, rakes, shovels, etc.
o Responsible for operation and maintenance of equipment used on projects including pickup trucks, trailers, compact tracked loaders, mulchers, mowers, buckets, chippers, and wood splitters.
o Assists with spirit firewood processing and delivery.
o Establish and maintain the physical fitness level necessary to effectively perform hard physical labor for extended periods under adverse climate, fuel, and terrain conditions
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of and ability to follow and apply the policies and procedures of the White Earth Reservation Business Committee and the Natural Resources Division.
• Knowledge of the White Earth Reservation demographics, culture, history, and lifestyles.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Skilled in the operation of four-wheel drive trucks, trailers, compact tracked loaders, and side by side UTV’s.
• Skilled in the operation of various hand tools and power saws including: Chainsaws, brush saws, pole saws, pruning saws, shovels, axes, and rakes.
• Knowledge of basic wildland firefighting techniques and prescribed fire techniques.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Applicant is required to operate a government motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license, and have a safe driving record within the 3-year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607.
• The applicant must have possessed all the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position:
o Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2)
o Required training: Introduction to ICS (ICS-100), Human factors in the wildland fire service (L-180), Firefighter training (S-130), Introduction to wildland fire behavior (S-190), NIMS: An introduction (IS-700), and Wildland fire safety training annual refresher (RT-130).
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
