Position Summary:
This is an entry level professional position. Clinical trainees are required to provide clinical services under direct supervision and in consultation with mental health professionals, in a culturally based setting. Responsibilities include providing psychotherapy, conducting diagnostic assessments, developing treatment plans, and completing required documentation and other necessary forms as required by White Earth Mental Health. Clinical trainees must comply with requirements for state or tribal licensure or board certification as a mental health professional, including supervised practice in the delivery of mental health services for the treatment of mental illness.
Position Outcomes:
- Identify and diagnose psychological, emotional, or behavioral disorders for clients of all ages.
- Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic interventions.
- Meet with individuals, families, and groups in offices, homes, schools, and community settings to provide client-centered services.
- Assist clients with understanding their problems and developing plans to resolve them.
- Provide a variety of mental health counseling and psychotherapy techniques for clients and their families.
- Work with adults, children, and their families/guardians to engage them in treatment planning and ongoing services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, substance abuse and various treatment modalities
- Biological, behavioral and environmental aspects of emotional disturbances, mental health disability, and substance abuse
- The scope and activities of tribal, public, and private health and child welfare agencies and other available community resources, including tribal, county, state, and federal resources
- Identification of individual, social, and environmental problems and their analysis and resolution in existing social contexts
- Ability to gain and apply knowledge of legislative and administrative rules and regulations pertaining to the delivery of behavioral health services.
- Ability to gain and apply knowledge of Tribal laws, Tribal codes, and ability to work within those rules and regulations.
- Ability to gain and apply knowledge of agency policies, rules, procedures
- Ability to gain and apply knowledge of traditional healing practices.
Qualifications: - Education: Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited college or university
- AND
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License is preferred, must pass a criminal background check, be free of substance abuse problems for at least two years, and have knowledge of traditional systems of healing. Qualified applications must have the ability to get to their assigned job location independently.
- After successful completion of licensure requirements and determination that the clinical trainee is the right fit and there is an opening within the program, the clinical trainee may have the opportunity for direct promotion to a Mental Health
- Professional role within the program.
