Circle of Life Academy is currently seeking a qualified applicant for a High School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher will deliver rigorous, culturally responsive instruction aligned with the Minnesota K–12 Academic Standards in English Language Arts (2010/2023). The teacher will foster literacy skills—reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language—that prepare students for college, career, and civic life while honoring Indigenous knowledge systems and community perspectives.
Outcomes:
• Plan and deliver standards-aligned ELA instruction for grades 7–12, addressing Reading Literature, Reading Informational Text, Writing, Speaking & Listening, and Language strands
o Teach the writing process explicitly—prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing—across argumentative, informative/explanatory, and narrative modes as outlined in MN Writing standards
o Design and sequence rigorous units of study anchored in MN ELA benchmarks, incorporating complex literary and informational texts that reflect diverse voices and perspectives
o Facilitate structured academic discussions, Socratic seminars, and collaborative projects that build students' speaking and listening competencies
• Integrate culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, including Indigenous texts, oral traditions, storytelling practices, and community knowledge into daily instruction
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including English Learners, students with IEPs and 504 plans, and gifted and talented students, using scaffolding, flexible grouping, and targeted interventions
o Use formative and summative assessments—including performance tasks, portfolios, and standardized measures—to monitor student progress toward MN standards benchmarks and adjust instruction accordingly
o Incorporate educational technology and digital literacy skills to enhance instruction and prepare students for 21st-century communication demands
o Keeps abreast of new trends and teaching methodologies in education through participation in professional development activities including, but not limited to, seminars, classes, and conferences
• Collaborate with colleagues on horizontal and vertical curriculum alignment, data analysis, professional learning communities, and school improvement goals
o Participate actively in school review processes, IEP/504 meetings, and professional development aligned with school and district priorities
o Continues professional growth and development through ongoing learning, goal-setting, and reflective practice informed by student data and feedback
• Maintain accurate academic records and communicate student progress to families in accessible formats and languages, supporting Title I family engagement activities
• Support a positive, inclusive classroom culture aligned with the school's mission, vision, and goal-driven approach to student achievement

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of and ability to follow and apply the policies and procedures of the White Earth Reservation Business Committee and Circle of Life Academy
• Knowledge of the White Earth Reservation history, culture, and lifestyles
• Deep knowledge of Minnesota ELA standards, including anchor standards for College and Career Readiness
• Understanding of adolescent literacy development and evidence-based instruction strategies
• Skilled in designing rigorous, standards-based units with aligned assessments
• Ability to analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and interventions
• Cultural competency and commitment to integrate Indigenous perspectives and community knowledge into curriculum
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for family and stakeholder engagement
• Proficiency with educational technology and learning management systems
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues across diverse backgrounds

Qualifications include:
• Valid Minnesota Teaching License in Communication Arts & Literature (Grades 7-12)
• Bachelors degree in English, Communication, or similar
• Experience teaching in Indigenous or culturally diverse setting
• Valid Driver’s license and insurance for travel between sites and other related business
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
