The White Earth Reservation Business Committee is currently seeking a qualified applicant who will be responsible for assisting in the Natural Resources Divisions in order to perform a variety of duties and activities depending on seasonal requirements of wildlife, agriculture, forestry, and wild rice management.
Position Summary:
Provides support to the director/management personnel to ensure protection of Tribal Natural Resources
• Responsible for assisting the wildlife, environmental, water resources, fisheries, agriculture, forestry and wild rice managers in physical work required to meet program goals and objectives
• Responsible for assisting the wildlife, environmental, water resources, fisheries, agriculture, forestry and wild rice managers in technical support required to meet program goals and objectives
• Responsible for utilization of time and efforts when accomplishing duties that involve reservation wide activities
Analyze, sample, investigate and test scientific data to evaluate the current conditions of Tribal Natural Resources
• Record test data and prepare reports, summaries, and charts that interpret test results.
Conduct equipment maintenance and inspection to maintain a safe working environment
• Operating, maintain and repair equipment
• Clean, maintain and prepare supplies and work areas.
• Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
Conduct communication activities to maintain good rapport with internal and external sources
• Initiate compliance/violation procedures
• Attend staff meetings and trainings
• Creates and completes reports to comply with required agencies (internal and external).
• Maintains open communication with internal and external sources/agencies
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of wildlife, environmental, water resources, fisheries, agriculture, forestry, and wild rice management
• Knowledge of local geography including lakes, streams, waterways and forests
• Knowledge of general natural resources including fish identification, local tree species, etc.
• Knowledge of natural resources activities such as hunting, fishing and/or ricing
• Knowledge of the White Earth Reservation demographics, culture, tribal customs and lifestyles
• Knowledge of and ability to follow and apply the policies and procedures of the White Earth Tribal Council.
• Skill in operating a variety of machinery, equipment and vehicles in a safe manner.
• Skill in customer service and the ability to interact with internal and external customers with tact and diplomacy.
• Skill in maintaining records and preparing technical reports
• Skill in performing complicated calculations
• Ability to adapt to the needs of different supervisors and accomplish the duties as required.
• Ability to work extended periods of time, carry heavy loads, get along in wooded areas and work alone at times.
• Ability to organize workload efficiently and effectively.
• Ability to follow instructions; to make competent independent decisions and to occasionally supervise laborers
• Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to communicate with co-workers, community residents, Tribal officials and the general public.
Qualifications include:
• High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and two (2) years direct experience in related field.
• Prefer associate degree in natural resource management.
• Valid driver’s license and insurance for travel between sites and other business-related destinations.
• Must pass criminal background check and drug screening.
