TUC Commissioners
Commissioners are appointed by the Tribal Council and serve staggering three year terms. Below are the TUC Commissioners, and information about them.
Nate Mathews is the Executive Director of the White Earth Nation Tribal Utility Commission (TUC). White Earth is an Anishinaabe Tribe in Ogema, MN, and the beautiful WE Reservation spans 36 square miles in northern MN. The White Earth Nation is member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe (MCT). Prior to working in the Tribal Utility and Energy space, Nate worked for 20 years as a City Manager in 3 Minnesota cities: Winnebago, Staples, and Bemidji. Nate has a wide range of public policy, board governance, public management, and utility management/construction experience.
Melinda (Mindy) Iverson is the White Earth Reservation Business Committee Human Resources Divisional Director. She is the Chair of the White Earth Reservation Tribal Utility Commission. She also serves on various boards in various capacities; a White Earth Tribal Health Systems Board Member, MMCDC Board Member, White Earth Investment Initiative Board Member and Secretary, and White Earth Outdoor Unity Team.
Melinda has over 25 years of dedicated, accomplished Executive and HR professional experience with a passion for supporting the White Earth RBC’s mission and it’s community members. Her professional background is in both the public and private sectors, government, and casino enterprise executive management. She possesses a wealth of knowledge in workforce development, training and development, business planning, financial planning, employment law, wage and market analysis, conflict resolution, mediation and setting performance standards.
In her free time, she enjoys time with family, water sports, knitting, quilting, and organizing fundraising events.
Gerald “Mike” Smith, Life long resident within White Earth Reservation. Career employee of the Shooting Star Casino as Director of Facilities 30 yrs & 15 yrs with Pine Point School. I have a family of 5, two whom are older & 3 that are younger. I’m retired and currently sit on the Tribal Utilities Commiission as Commissioner.
Christie Haverkamp, the Compliance Director for the White Earth RBC, brings more than 36 years of experience and certifications in Gaming and Tribal Government. She has extensive expertise in regulatory compliance, background investigations, auditing, and personnel security across a range of tribal programs, entities, tribal commissions and boards. Compliance is a dedicated support division for the White Earth Gaming Commission and White Earth Election Board.
A dedicated community leader, currently she is a member of the White Earth Reservation Tribal Utilities Commission, the Waubun-Ogema-White Earth School Board, Dream Catcher homes Supportive Housing Board of Directors. served on the White Earth Community Council and the former White Earth Federal Credit Union.
An enrolled member of the White Earth Nation, Christie was raised in the White Earth community where she continues to reside with her husband Tony.
